The Desert

Ben and I had the best time in the desert this past weekend for a continued celebration of our anniversary.  On Saturday we drove from LA straight to the Westin Mission Hills Gary Player course for a round of golf.  It was a beautiful course, but hot as Hades and a SLOW round due to an earlier tournament.  It took us 6 hours to get through 16 holes before we decided to call it quits.  Towards the end I had par putts on three different holes- a minor victory for me, so I was fine to keep going but Mr. Ben had had enough.  Not quite as many par putts on his end...

I thought the highlight was the prevalence of little bunnies hopping all over the place, thinking one would make a good playmate for the boys back home, but Ben did his usual eye roll at the suggestion.

Post golf we headed to the Mod Resort - the cutest little hotel that Ben found for us.  Only 14 rooms, this geriatric mid-century motel was recently bought and completely renovated by a Malibu native.  All the rooms are decorated in a funky modern mixed with old Hollywood vibe. Everything was very cozy and accessible, topped with Frette bathrobes, Montague & Capulet 500 thread count sheets, and beds so comfortable I didn't think I'd be able to drag Ben out of it.  The best part is the small scale of the place, as everyone congregates out at the pool and jacuzzi for sunbathing, swimming and ice cold beers.  Quite nice given the hellacious heat.

Ben and I finally dragged ourselves out of the jacuzzi and out around town and to dinner at the nearby Pacifica restaurant for some fresh fish in the desert (go figure) and people watching.  Then it was home to rest up for the Stagecoach Country Music Festival!!!

can't believe you guys didn't finish the last two holes after having invested 6 hours for 16 holes!
