We're Water People

So this morning I was supposed to get up early and go to a surfing lesson with Lindsay and Jana.  If you're a long time reader of my blog- you know both that I'm not a surfer and that I have an irrational fear of sharks.  Well I agreed to do this despite that.  And then Jana cancelled on me- I think she wimped out, though she cited being "sick."  Well Ben and I went anyway.  He was a patient teacher, I was an attentive, albeit, awful and incompetent learner.  I did a lot of nose diving over my board, Ben couldn't seem to break my habit of jumping up with my feet side by side rather than apart and at an angle, and I refused to let my feet dangle in the water for fear I'd look more like a seal (aka shark bait).  But it was fun!  I never stood up, but the wetsuit kept me fairly warm and I didn't see any dorsals- so in my opinion this day was a success.

Well we went from surfing to go sailing.  Bryan is apparently a long-time sailor, which I was a bit suspect of- but he did get us from Marina del Rey to the Santa Monica Pier with no mishap.  We all wished we had sported more sailing gear with popped collars and sweaters, but other than that- the event was quite fun.

A few points of interest:
There was a fire in the Palisades that started, blazed and was then put out all during our sailing trip.  Nice quick work firemen in LA!

We ran into this buoy full of sea lions which was very cute.

And my favorite part? A boat in the dock was coined "La Mer" - aka our the name of our first dance song and one with very fond memories for us.  Ah La Mer...
