However. The lights on the outside of the house are a miserable failure. I have a whole new appreciation for my dad's Chevy Chase inclinations for all things Christmas and his massive displays of thousands of strands of lights on the house- even causing our dishwasher to blow up not once but twice.

Ben was not so interested in putting lights on the house since we're not going to be around much this December. I strongly disagreed- as this does happen to be our FIRST Christmas with an actual house to adorn with said lights. So I went out with the lights, a bench, and duct tape (didn't want to put nails into the house and didn't have those fancy clips)- and did my best to put up the lights. Well both Ben and an old man on the street laughed at the display and said it looked very "pathetic." And, on top of that, the morning after my hard labor, all the duct tape had peeled off and the lights were laying on the ground. Very sad.
But I haven't given up hope. I went to Target (nightmare), bought the fancy clips, and will try again tomorrow.
Also of note- Ben's Aunt Audrey was in town furnishing her daughter's new apartment in Santa Monica for two days and we got to enjoy 2 great meals with her!
