Thursday night we had a great dinner party with Summer, Maribeth and Emily along with their respectives. There was a lot of toasting to MB and Ben's recent engagement and a lot of encouragement by me to have them schedule the nuptials at a time that is most convenient for MY calendar. Because that's clearly their #1 priority.
After they left I excitedly stared at the pile of dishes ahead of me, because let's be honest, I'm a tad OCD when it comes to my kitchen and dishes. I have a system, it's a perfect one, and I enjoy completing this housewifely task immensely. And it's totally normal.
Well perhaps I got a little too excited at the prospect as I dove my hand into a bowl full of flatware, grabbed a Wusthof by mistake and nearly severed my thumb. Ben had to take over where I left off and I stayed at his shoulder supervising the whole time. I think I really made him fall in love with me all over again while doing so.
The next morning I was still losing loads of my precious blood, so I had to take a trip to the local ER- where Ben got to curse about how "only in LA do they only have valet parking at the ER" and got myself all stitched up. Sadly this happened to my right hand- rendering me pretty useless as my left hand is really just there for show. Also sadly, Ben has thus far completely avoided giving me any workman's comp despite this being a peril of my job as a housewife.
Friday night we went to the Moving Units concert at the El Rey theater with Jaimee and Dave. We made the mistake of eating loads of food prior to the concert at AOC- so Miss Jaimee was falling asleep about 45 minutes into the show. Apparently we aren't the ragers we once were in high school... Or perhaps her daughter Ava tires her out- either or.
In other news- Navajo sent Ben the Dinosaur BBQ cookbook recently and Ben has gone through and marked at least 25 recipes I'm supposed to make ASAP. Most of the recipes require their "Mutha" sauce- or their version of BBQ sauce- so Ben took it upon himself to whip up a batch tonight. Ben's a really good cook. But unfortunately he has not yet learned how to respect my love of a clean kitchen. I was running after him with a sponge, but had to give up when the sauce started spattering at distances greater than 3 feet. Thanks Navajo.... We do now have at least 10 cups of the stuff in case anyone is in need.
