Baby Stuff

I went in for another doctor's visit today. I had my routine gestational diabetes test- where you have to chug this bottle full of overly sugared up fruit punch concoction, and then they take your blood exactly one hour after you have it. The drink is not pleasant- but I'd heard horror stories and it wasn't the worst thing in the world.

I'd also been having a fair amount of Braxton Hicks contractions in the past few weeks - so they got all up close and personal to make sure everything was ship shape and it was of course. She told me to "take it easier" - which is kind of silly since I'm already a lady of leisure but maybe I can start getting people to carry my groceries for me or something just to milk it. The guy at the pet store carried out the dog food for me the other day and I thought he was the nicest man in the world.

Anyway- baby is 1 lb 13 oz - so I can attribute about 2 pounds of my weight gain to her alone. I'm saying approximately 8lbs of the other stuff has gone to my chest just because I choose to. She's kicking like crazy- her head is down, and she wouldn't sit still for a beauty shot, so we have this muddled one instead. I think it looks like she's turning her head from the 'camera.'

And for everyone who thinks I'm exceptionally large in the midsection- the doctor says my belly is right where it should be size-wise, weight gain is right where it should be, and all is well. So she basically assuaged my complex somewhat. It was getting a little iffy there the past few weeks when people's first responses to me were "wow! you're huge!" or "wow! you've really popped!" instead of "wow! you're glowing/beautiful/amazing/perfect!" (I've inserted all the appropriate options for any of you I see in the near future).

In other exciting news- we've painted the baby's room! I was very determined to do stripes- and stripes we did. The 3 surrounding walls are a very pale gray- that Ben thinks is too close in shade to the white ceiling- and it does sort of blend in somewhat in these pictures- but there IS a contrast- and I think it softens the room nicely. I had to crop the photo somewhat as there are all sorts of odds and ends spread out on the floor that weren't very photo-worthy. Once we find a rug for the room, we'll put together the crib and bookshelves- and then I'm onto my next projects- which are to reupholster the rocking chair and another chair we have for the room, and construct a valance for the window to go over a shade.

Wow! You're glowing/beautiful/amazing/perfect - though I wish you'd included a pic of yourself so that I could be more credible! You are a PERFECT size and though everyone thinks they know more than you do about your pregnancy, the only person you should be listening to is your doctor! Love the room - can't wait to see it finished with baby inside!

Such a great update and this little lady looks (more like sounds) adorable! You are glowing--we can tell in your writing! I hope you will heed Doctor's advice and slow down. (She sounds very wise!) Lots going on with your body and you are FAR from a lady of leisure! Make sure Ben is making you some dinners and forcing you to put your feet up! Can't wait to see you in a few weeks--and we will force you to sit then! xx

I am so impressed with your craftiness. Though, I hope your dr doesn't read your blog, as I'm not sure reupholstering chairs and constructing valances count as "taking it easy"! Can't wait to see the finished products (home decor and that baby you're growing)! PS- thanks for the line break tip.

Your paint looks AMAZING!!! I love it. I can't wait to see the rest of the room when you are done. Also, I am quite impressed with your blogging frequency. I have much to learn from you and hope you keep it up once baby girl is here. I hope we can have lunch this week...I really miss you :)
