On Breanne's hysterical blog (http://oatbran.livejournal.com/) devoted largely to the glory that is television, she ranks her top TV shows. Since I'm going through withdrawals due to the cursed WGA strike- I thought I'd pipe in with my oh so humble thoughts on the matter. Not that I watch any TV ever...
I should also note that the only show Ben really cares about is The Wire - but any commentary on that will have to come from his post since he always watches it while I'm at work and I've only ever seen 1 episode.
My Top 5 Shows by Category:

1. 30 Rock - Best Sitcom. No joke! I really think this is one of the best shows on TV and brings back the 30-minute sitcom in a way few others have been able to replicate. I feel like I'm betraying Pam and Jim (The Office) for this, but Liz Lemon, Jack Donaghy, and Kenneth Parcell (not to mention the many fantastic cameos) are seriously some of the most hysterical characters on TV. I mean really, when Kenneth meets Jerry Seinfeld on the elevator and starts imitating the jingle while making googly eyes? Classic.

2. Dirty Sexy Money - Best Nighttime Soap. New show I know, but it's like Dynasty set NYC. I miss nighttime soaps! Donald Sutherland is fantastic as Tripp Darling, the patriarch of the family- you feel bad for him half the time because of his cheating wife, silly spoiled kids, and betrayal by his best friend, but you know this guy is mixed up in some SHADY activities. William Baldwin as his son Patrick Darling who can't quit his he/she tranny lady/man love; Karen Darling who's silly, spoiled, beautiful, and yet perhaps smarter and more conniving that we first thought when we discover she's sleeping with Simon Elder on daddy's orders...; Samaire Armstrong (hooray OC!) doesn't have a huge role yet, but again- hooray OC!; and Seth Gabel as Jeremy Darling is as he is named - darling. And THEN there's Rev. Brian Darling played by Glenn Fitzgerald, meanest man of the cloth, with a soft-spot for his bastardized son, who finds he's not really a Darling? Love it. I think the only person I don't like on the show is our hero Nick George. Do I care why his dad died? Anyway- again, I miss nighttime soaps and this one sucked me right in.

3. Project Runway - Best Reality TV. In general, I steer clear of reality TV. I think it's annoying and the people are the epitome of trashy/stupid Americans. Kid Nation (I miss Jared!) may be one exception - apparently I like watching children getting exploited by their parents at a young age... And of course I like my occasional Dancing with the Stars (I was their biggest fan in Season 1- but they have too much filler now!) But I love Heidi Klum, Tim Gunn makes me laugh, and there are ridiculous divas on each season! I think Christian has the edge this season- he's in the top each week. Ricky needs to go- I'm sick of him crying. We get it- you worked in lingerie.

4. Gossip Girl - Best Teen Soap. Hands down winner of this category. I miss the OC, loved 90210, and GG fills the void perfectly. That it's set in NYC is fun for all of us who lived there. That the parents are all young enough and beautiful enough to date the kids on the show is fantastic. While Summer and Seth were adorable and gave you the warm and fuzzies, Blaire Waldorf and Chuck Bass make you want to lock your children up or move them to the midwest till they're 35- and yet I LOVE them. Seriously Nate? You don't have the backbone for Blair. Serena and Dan are predictably and almost sickly sweet together. I love Rufus Humphrey- poor sap can't catch a break with the lady loves though. Jenny Humphrey is totally turning her back on her Brooklyn roots, and Serena's brother Eric is way too nice for her as a love interest. ***Spoiler Alert*** Rumor has it he's actual "gossip girl."

5. Californication - Best Cable Drama. Don't get me wrong, I lurve me some Weeds, but Californication really won me over this year. I hated it with all it's gratuitous booby shots in the first couple episodes, but eventually the characters and the plot wormed their way into my heart. Hank Moody the poor slut is just a tortured soul trying to get his family back. Karen is beautiful and clearly still loves him. Their precocious daughter Becca is wise-beyond her years and adorable to watch when she's rocking out on her guitar. Mia is the disturbing Lolita on the block, and Charlie Runkle is just skeezy, but a good character nonetheless. Who'd have thought Hank would be more pulled together than Charlie? My only concern is where they can even go next? Is Karen going to leave him again? Is Hank going to ruin everything again? Is Mia going to tell on Hank? Will we ever find out with this stupid strike on???
Honorable Mentions:
Bones - I love the Booth and Bones romantic tension and I'm a sucker for the medical mystery.

Honorable Mentions:
Bones - I love the Booth and Bones romantic tension and I'm a sucker for the medical mystery.
Lost - Of course I love Lost - it's just been off for so long and the season is going to be so abbreviated this year... I barely remember what's going on! Definitely on Team Sawyer though. And Team Jin.
The Office - Pure genius. Kelly? Angela and Dwight? Pam and Jim? Michael?
House - My medical drama of choice. And I love that they brought in Olivia Wilde to play 13.
Chuck - Josh Schwartz strikes again and it's Alias with Marshall in charge. They should bring back Rachel Bilson as a love interest since Chuck and Sarah are never going to work it.
Reaper - Who'd have thought a show about a guy who's soul has been sold to the devil could be so watchable? Of course - Sam (Bret Harrison) is roommates with Adam Brody- so perhaps the comic genius lies there. Though Tyler Labine's portrayal of Sock is super.
Pushing Daisies - I love this whimsical show and the color wash of every scene. The weekly mysteries are entertaining enough- but it's just eye candy to watch! Plus Kristen Chenoweth as Olive Snook is adorable. You have to root for Chuck and Ned, but poor Olive deserves some lovin' too!
Weeds - Mary Louise Parker is amazing in this and I've loved Justin Kirk since Jack and Jill. The whole show is just clever and well executed. Love it.

Hi Amie, it's Kimmie! I LOVE Project Runway. I am also so OVER Ricky and his ugly hats. I can't believe he is still on and Victorya got the boot. And Kevin! What up with that?!
Thanks for missing Jared. You may be able to see more of him at some point in the near future...
gossip girl is the only show we watch these days! is the source where you learned the identity of gossip girl a good one?
